Keynote Speakers

We are thrilled to announce our keynote speakers for the second annual Digital Learning Strategy Forum: Maha Bali and Lucas Wright. Join us as these experts share their insights and experiences. Their contributions promise to inspire and equip participants with the tools needed to advance digital education in British Columbia.


Maha Bali

Maha Bali (she/her) is professor of practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She has a PhD in Education from the University of Sheffield. Maha is the co-founder of Virtually Connecting, a grassroots movement that challenges academic gatekeeping at conferences, and a co-facilitator of Equity Unbound, an equity-focused, open, connected intercultural learning curriculum.

Maha frequently writes and speaks on social justice, critical pedagogy, and open and online education. She publishes regularly on her blog and tweets at @bali_maha.

Lucas Wright

Lucas Wright (he/him) is a senior education consultant at the University of British Columbia (UBC) with over 14 years’ experience, specializing in learning technology and design, particularly in the application of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). Lucas has extensive experience teaching adults and in K-12 classrooms.

His background includes a Bachelor of Education and certification as a B.C. teacher. He also holds a master’s degree in Adult Education from UBC, along with certifications in digital storytelling, instructional skills, and online learning. Lucas’ goal is to enhance teaching and learning by integrating Generative AI to foster dynamic and innovative learning environments.
